How To Write A Great Default Appeal For Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers

When you’re setting up a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign, one of the best things to ensure that your fundraisers create a page that’s optimized to drive donations is by creating a default appeal.

A default appeal is the content that auto-fills on an individual’s personal fundraising page during setup, and it’s a powerful tool you can leverage to set your fundraisers (and your campaign) up for success.

The best kinds of default fundraiser appeals provide content that gives your fundraisers an idea for what kinds of information to include on their page, giving them the inspiration and guidance they need to edit it to their own needs.

A great default fundraiser appeal will include:

  • What they are fundraising for + how meeting the goal will make an impact.
  • Details about their participation in the event (if applicable).
  • Why they are passionate about the cause.
  • An ask to donate to their page.

A peer-to-peer default appeal works best when it:

  • Is ready to share: It can be used by fundraisers who choose not to edit the content during page setup – because let’s face it, some fundraisers just want to set their page up quickly and won’t edit it.
  • Is written in first-person, (using ‘I, me, my, myself, mine’) so it reads like an individual speaking to their family and friends.
  • Includes images and videos to help drive engagement.
  • Succinct: Do your best to get just the main details required that would inspire a friend or family member to donate! Typically, between 250-500 words is enough.

Team Default Appeals

Should you be engaging groups of personal fundraisers to fundraise as a team, another way to set teams up for success is to create a default team appeal that auto-fills in all the content on their team page.

While many of the same tips for personal page default appeals, a great team appeal will:

  • Be written in first-person, (using ‘We, us, our, ourselves’) so it reads like a group speaking to a potential donor.
  • Include content about joining the team, if applicable.
