Today is GivingTuesday. A day that celebrates giving and generosity around the world. This movement is fueled by people choosing, together, to help others and support a change in our world with their voice, their time, and their giving.
Our team at CauseVox loves GivingTuesday as the movement’s “why” aligns with what sparked Rob and Jeff to step out and build CauseVox in 2009: a belief that together we can help good flourish.
So, as we approached GivingTuesday, I asked our team what GivingTuesday fundraising campaigns they were inspired by and felt truly captured the spirit of the movement.
There were hundreds of campaigns, however, we decided to spotlight six standout examples below. The people and organizations behind these campaigns believe that together we can make a change in our world and bring grit, resilience, and drive to seeing that through.
Here are six GivingTuesday fundraising campaign examples:
Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois
Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois believes that every girl should have the opportunity to discover their interests, tackle challenges and find their inner self.
In an effort to include as many girls as possible in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSNI), they are using GivingTuesday to raise $10,000 for their financial assistance fund. GSNI’s financial assistance gives girls like Patty the opportunity to develop, learn and lead.
Things we love about their campaign:
- Defined a clear and specific SMART fundraising goal for GivingTuesday
- Focused on impact over transactions in their fundraising appeal
- Used nonprofit storytelling and the experience of one girl to inspire and showcase the “why” behind the campaign
- Leveraged community-driven fundraising and activated supporters to create personal peer-to-peer fundraising pages
The Painted Turtle
At The Painted Turtle, children with serious medical conditions are not defined by their illness. Kids come away from a week at Camp with the courage to try something new, confidence to make new friends and new independence in their healthcare.
Their camp is always free of charge to campers and their families, and that’s why their GivingTuesday fundraising campaign showcases the impact of Camp and seeks to raise $50,000 to allow more kids with chronic illnesses to experience the adventure that awaits them at The Painted Turtle – while also providing the expert pediatric care they need in a safe and comfortable environment.
Things we love about their campaign:
- Use video storytelling to share their mission and inspire the community to become a supporter
- Leverage a major donor’s gift of $25,000 as a matching grant, doubling the impact of others’ gifts
- Showcase various donation tiers and the impact of the gift on their online donation page
Jewish Voices of Peace
Jewish Voice for Peace members are inspired by Jewish tradition to work together for peace, social justice, equality, human rights, respect for international law, and a U.S. foreign policy based on these ideals.
JVP is starting on a super ambitious 5-year growth plan and they are using their GivingTuesday fundraising campaign to build momentum toward their larger goals by focusing on recuriting more supporters and $40,000.
Things we love about their campaign:
- Customized the look and feel of their online fundraising site to build continuity and brand recognition
- Have a clear financial goal, however, are primarily focused on cultivating relationships and growing their community
- Recruited peer-to-peer fundraisers from their community to create personal fundraising pages to share with their friends, family, and community
JW House
JW House was the vision of Jan-Willem (JW) Knapen, a boy who, in the midst of battling brain cancer, wanted to do something to help other children and families facing similar situations. Now in their 10th year of operation, JW House has welcomed visitors over 65,000 times.
Their GivingTuesday fundraising campaign expands their year-round efforts to keep families together during medical crises by offering a welcoming home away from home and providing a caring and compassionate environment that inspires hope.
Things we love about their campaign:
- Campaign video shows donors their impact (hope) and inspires support
- They use GivingTuesday to kick off their holiday fundraising campaign
Housing Opportunities Commission
The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) was established to provide affordable housing and supportive services that enhance the lives of low- and moderate-income families and individuals throughout Montgomery County, Maryland.
Their GivingTuesday fundraising campaign is an opportunity for the community to partner with HOC to further their mission and impact.
Things we love about their campaign:
- Share exactly what their $50,000 goal will provide and the impact those services/programs will have on the community
- Incorporate their GivingTuesday with their year-end fundraising to expand the impact they can have during their campaign
- Invite you to become a “partner”, not a donor, as they are committed to cultivating long-term relationships
The Motherhood Collective
The Motherhood Collective was established to “nurture the mother to grow the child” by providing FREE evidence-based education and social support programming to women from preconception through postpartum. With immense value placed on peer-to-peer support, they find that offering women a place to belong results in deeper connection to her community.
Their GivingTuesday campaign is focused on raising $5,000 in additional support to ensure they can offer free support and programs to women in the community throughout 2018.
Things we love about their campaign:
- Used CauseVox to customized the design of their crowdfunding website to be simple, beautiful and aligned with their brand
- Highlight the importance of investing in “our community” and that together we can serve women in their community
- Use stories from those that benefit from their programs to inspire supporters to give
- Integrated their online fundraising campaign with a creative fundraising event idea at a local chocolate shop they partnered with
