How Do Movements Start?
On this episode of Rally & Engage by CauseVox, we talk with Lauren Wiskerson. She is the Fundraising Specialist at Project AWARE, a growing movement of scuba divers protecting our ocean planet.
For two decades Project AWARE’s mission was to educate divers about emerging ocean issues and encourage participation in underwater conservation activities. More than 1000 dive operators and countless dive volunteers committed to marine protection efforts worldwide.
Today, Project AWARE is doing more. On World Oceans Day, June 8th 2011, Project AWARE flipped the switch on an unprecedented global movement of divers acting in their own communities to protect oceans. We support a movement for divers around the world to combine efforts–online and offline–for positive and long-lasting environmental change.
During our conversation, we talk about:
- How movement’s can grow out a small group’s desire to do something bigger than themselves
- The challenge of identifying where to focus your time as a fundraiser, especially when your staff and resources are limited,
- How our stories are what inspires others to take action
